Why Swap for Good?

Swap for Good is a grassroots non-profit project to encourage people across the country to host clothing swaps, and ask for donations at the door to raise money for local domestic violence shelters. During the recession, requests for help from domestic violence shelters has skyrocketed, while funding has plummeted. In states like California, Governor Schwarzenegger recently cut 100% of the state’s funding for domestic violence shelters, and shelters in other states have faced similar funding crises.
Clothing swaps are gaining in popularity during the recession, with people around the country getting together for swap parties to get great new stuff for free. Swap for Good adds an easy way to turn your swap party into a fundraiser for a good cause. Each host will be able to pick the local shelter that their party will raise money for, using Swap for Good’s zip-code look-up widget to find nearby shelters that need funding. Hosts donate the money directly to their local shelter, so there are no overhead costs and all the money goes to the cause.
Get a new wardrobe and help raise money for a critical life-saving cause at the same time. Don’t need new clothes? You can swap books, tools, kitchen supplies, gadgets, or just invite over some friends to swap stories. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so it’s a great time to host a Swap for Good event. Help us meet our goal of 100 swaps around the country this fall! Ready to get started?
